Over August, I'm highlighting a few of my favorite podcasts, products, books, social accounts, and resources for personal and professional development. I would ❣️to hear yours!

Up First: Podcasts

  1. Speaking of Psychology : I love this podcast because it explores the latest research in psychology that is relevant to how we conduct our lives in work, home, and play. It covers relationships, senses, burnout, sleep, technology, mindset, and more. AND it's delivered so that non-psych folks can follow along! Anyone can listen and walk away with a tidbit to apply to their lives.
  2. Work-Life with Adam Grant : Adam Grant is a well-known (in the business world) organizational psychologists who, as he says, studies how to make work not suck. If you think your work can suck, or want it to keep from sucking, you should probably tune in!
  3. Freakonomics : Economist Stephen J. Dubner explores "the hidden side of everything". I love how it gives me a new perspective on everything from the seemingly mundane to the most important issues of our time. For example: lawns and shoes to climate change and minimum wage.
  4. Throughline : I enjoy Throughline because it explores the history behind current events. Depending on the issue and your background, the podcast could refresh what you learned in school, reveal events you never knew about, and/or bring another voice and perspective that you had never been introduced to. I believe that to ensure a bright future, we must understand the context of the present, and that begins with knowing the whole past.
  5. Choiceology : Behavioral scientist Katy Milkman helps us understand why we do what we do, why we think what we think, and how we can improve our judgement and behaviors to live more fulfilling lives.
    * 𝘏𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘕𝘪𝘬𝘦 : I loved the first two seasons of Trained. The episodes are hit or miss for me personally, now, but there is a lot of gold there. Host Ryan Flaherty, Nike senior director for performance, explores the mental and physical well-being practices athletes use to perform. The idea is that you leave each episode with tips on how to apply these practices in your own life and the inspiration to do so.
