The Power of a Daily Skincare Routine

DailySkincareRoutine

Having a daily routine can help you decrease stress, improve your sleep, eat better, move more, boost confidence and self-esteem, and overall improve your quality of life.
AND it can improve your skin.
Multiple studies and industry experts show that having a consistent skincare routine helps improve the overall health and vibrancy of your skin. It positively affects: moisture, hydration, signs of aging, the skin barrier, protection against environmental aggressors, protection against UV rays, discoloration, acne, redness, irritation, and more. It can also help extend the results of cosmetic procedures.
For example, a daily routine was found to boost the confidence and quality of life in older adults by improving common symptoms of skin aging. A twice-daily, three-step routine was found to improve the overall appearance of skin and decrease acne in individuals aged 12-35. And a twice-daily, three-step routine was found to improve the quality of men’s skin and decrease shave-related irritation.

WHY ROUTINES PAY OFF

The reason? Lifestyle choices are estimated to account for 80 percent of visible signs of skin aging.
What you do every day matters more than any one procedure. It’s like the health of the rest of your body. How you care for your body throughout the day and night matters more than the 30-60+min you spend at the gym.
It’s recommended that a base routine include a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Be sure to add an SPF for day time. It can be separate or included in your moisturizer. From there, depending on your concerns and skin type, you can add serums and other products to enhance your results.
There was a nice article in the New York Times Magazine about how to build a skincare routine. If it seems overwhelming navigating through the different ingredients, formulations, and tracking down products…(I hear you, it does to me too)…try using a system clinically tested to work together for your specific concerns and skin type.

SELF-CARE RITUAL

Skin serves as a “billboard to the world”.  It reveals your stress and habits. It’s the first thing people see. It also serves critical functions: protection, temperature regulation, immune system functions, sensory perception, pigment production, and more.
Skin is your biggest organ. Taking care of it is as important as brushing your teeth. So it should be as ritualistic as brushing your teeth. Think of it as a ritual. A self-care bookend to your day. You are worth taking five minute to care for your skin.
And just think of the ripple effects this routine will have across other areas of your life.
