1. An evaluation of Chile’s Law of Food Labeling and Advertising on sugar-sweetened beverage purchases from 2015 to 2017: A before-and-after study

As the title states, this study evaluated the effects to date of Chile’s food label and advertising law, adopted four years ago.

A key finding is that purchases of sugar-sweetened drinks dropped 23.7% in 18 months.

2. Extreme Weight Loss: Patients Shed Serious Pounds

“Obesity is among the most common chronic diseases in the United States yet one of the most undertreated. And it's only going to get worse, with almost half of US adults predicted to have obesity by 2030, up from 40% now," this Medscape article explores how some patients lost weight and the reason so many struggle to work with their doctors to do the same.

"One of the reasons primary care physicians struggle to successfully treat patients with obesity — particularly extreme obesity — is that many don't know how, says Scott Kahan, MD, MPH, director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness in Washington, DC.

Medical schools traditionally haven't taught students how to treat obesity, says Kahan, and the American Medical Association did not even recognize obesity as a chronic disease until 2013.”
